The Gospel, Ecumenism and Theology Committee is involved with educating and challenging presbyters and the people of our pastoral charges to reflect upon, and faithfully proclaim, the Gospel of Jesus Christ with theological integrity. It is further called to nurture respectful relationships with people of other faiths and all people of good will.
The Gospel, Ecumenism and Theology Committee's principal tasks are:
-
to promote the study of documents which the United Church has set before its membership, such as “Mending the World” which radically redefines ecumenism,
“Bearing Faithful Witness” which speaks to our relationship with Judaism,
and the document “That We May Know Each Other”, which is a study about Christian-Islamic relations
-
to deal with issues as diverse as who lays on hands at ordination services, how to promote Biblical literacy, and what words we should use as we participate in the formulation of a new Statement of Faith for The United Church of Canada.
The Gospel, Ecumenism and Theology Committee meets four or five times a year and sets its own priorities for explorations, based on the interests and inclinations of committee members. The Committee relates to the Conference committee of the same name. |
